Effect	Your melee attacks deal additional Fire Damage. Also, when your shields become depleted you create a fiery explosion, damaging nearby enemies. Your shields must fully recharge between explosions. +1 Backdraft Damage Rank per level.

Backdraft is a Tier 3 skill in Maya's Cataclysm skill tree.

Effects

Melee attacks do additional fire damage. In addition, when the player's shield is depleted, a fire nova is emitted to damage nearby enemies. As with nova shields, the entire capacity must recharge between novas.

Notes

The fire damage is actually a separate effect which triggers when the attack connects with an enemy. Following a melee attack, Backdraft's fire damage procs, which has a chance of igniting the enemy.

Unlike a Nova Shield, the Backdraft nova triggers immediately when the shield is depleted. If Maya is wearing a nova shield and trains in Backdraft, when her shields go down, Backdraft will trigger, shortly followed by the actual nova shield burst when it would normally trigger.

Although Backdraft "effectively" turns any shield Maya wears into a nova shield, killing an enemy with the Backdraft burst does not count towards the Super Novas challenge, even if she is wearing a true nova shield.
